Written in 1727 and based off of original Shakespearean manuscripts, Double Falsehood is a layered exploration of honor, rape, discourse, dishonesty, promises and love. The classical text follows the form of a standard 5 act Shakespearean comedy, surfeit with cross-dressing, anguished lovers, foibled fathers, heroic royalty and privy (yet silent) citizenry. It is a smart and scathing contrivance that demands dialogue around why, in nearly 300 years, our society continues to deal in violence, blame and victimization.
The three phase project is designed to spark a conversation and
incite a change in our society as a whole.

CAST & CREW
PHASE ONE: A WORKSHOP PRODUCTION
Spring 2015
Last Spring, Letter of Marque Theater Co. presented a workshop production of
the show at South Oxford Space in Fort Greene, Brooklyn (May 14th to 17th, 2015)
With performer generated music under the direction of LoM's Nolan Kennedy and ensemble-driven storytelling this production promises to be one of the most original mountings of this obscure play.
Directed by Andrew Borthwick-Leslie (Shakespeare & Co., Shakespeare Forum) and starring Ariel Estrada, Tom Giordano*, Montana Lampert Hoover, Adam Huff, Nolan Kennedy, Zach Libresco,
Poppy Liu, Welland H. Scripps, and Scarlet Maressa Rivera.
Director Andrew Borthwick-Leslie shares his thoughts on why this project is
so relevant to the challenges and times of our modern society, sexuality and women's rights.
PHASE TWO: DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
Summer-Fall 2015
Throughout Summer to Fall 2015, the Double Falsehood Project ensemble
continued to rehearse and work on what we learnt from Phase One.
As the cast continues to build on characters, delving deeper into the themes and relationships of the story, we will continue to incorporate technical and design elements, and original music score with Nolan Kennedy
Our team will be engaging community groups, universities and women's rights advocacy leaders,
and creative thinkers to join in the conversation in developing the piece into the full production,
and how best to reach our audiences to create maximum impact.

SPREAD THE WORD!Join the conversation on social media and #doublefalsehoodproject @lomtheater to let us know your thoughts! This play was chosen to spark a conversation about how we as a society choose to deal with our culture of relationships between men, women, friendship, sex, trust, family and loyalty - topics that affect all of us.
Whether it's something you heard, something you've written, a project you're involved in - let us know! The more we get talking, the more we may find a solution INVITE YOUR PEOPLE!One of our main goals for this project is to spark a conversation with young men and women on the current climate of rape culture,
Why are there such pressured sexual expectations of young men in frat houses and a societal norm for women to "protect themselves" from sexual assault. How do we change the hook up culture to ensure consent is part and parcel of "getting it"? Contact us at [email protected] for more information on how to get free tickets or viewings for your organization, school or college. Dramaturg Lynde Rosario will also be hosting Talkbacks and panels to discuss certain aspects of what is affecting our society. |
As part of our mission, LOM provides accessible, approachable programming at little or no cost to our audiences - as we recognise the financial barriers that prohibit many people from accessing quality theater, an experience that can expand worlds, impact perspectives and incite change.
