Help Us Fund Season 6:
Playwrights, Lieutenants, and Pinocchio
We are Letter of Marque Theater Company. And, by the last week of December, we are raising $15k to fund three major programs this season: the Ensemble Playwrights Lab, the Lieutenants Lab, and a workshop production of a new play based on the original Pinocchio.
$5k will fund our newest residency program: the Ensemble Playwrights Lab serves as an incubator for collaboration between playwrights and the LOM ensemble of actors, musicians, dramaturgs, and directors. This is a unique opportunity for playwrights to workshop their plays, in real time, with our multi-disciplinary ensemble. Each 6-week residency ends with a public presentation.
Another $5k will support our ongoing weekly training program: the Lieutenants Lab. In these 3-hour sessions, we rehearse, develop, and train with our ensemble; which we refer to as the Lieutenants. We explore LOM’s methodology through improv, devising, and live composition. And sometimes we make shows from these Labs. Like last season’s live radio comedy, The Mutiny Radio Hour.
The remaining money will be spent on a workshop production of our version of Pinocchio directed by returning artist, Andrew Borthwick-Leslie (Double Falsehood, The Humanist Project, Shakespeare & Co.) This new play-in-process will explore identity, a culture of violence, and what it means to be a "real boy." The show will be crafted by the ensemble and based on Carlo Collodi's 1883 beloved classic, "The Adventures of Pinocchio." This is the first phase of our next multi-phase project in which we build shows over a long period of time. The final production aims to be in Spring of 2019.
Each of these three programs is absolutely free to our creative partners. AND we offer all of our programs at little or no cost to YOU, our audiences.
